Inspiration

Jeff and I.

Inspiration.

That’s a word that means a great deal to all artists. Most of my creative life I’ve had people encouraging me such as my grandmother when I was child, my husband while he was alive and today I have my boyfriend. Jeff encouraged me to start my artistic professional journey after viewing my drawings that I had kept hidden. I have had many people throughout my life encourage me suggest that I should be an artist yet I was too scared to try. I was scared I would lose my creative voice if I turned into a professional artist.

As artist that fear is true for so many. But we have to remember, that our art is extension of who we truly are. Before I was an artist I was an author. I let my stories tell me what to write. I still do today. The painting and drawings do the same thing. It isn’t until the editing process, no matter if we are writing or creating art, that we turn off the creative voice and fine tune whatever we are designing. Many times that voice is still guiding us, telling us what to edit. There have even been times that I have thrown away a canvas because the voice has told me to start over. And that’s ok! If the painting or drawing isn’t speaking to you then just walk away. Sometimes you just need to take a break. I’ve done that before and have found whenever I return to the painting or drawing it will speak to me again.

Never lose hope and never give up on the piece of art that you are working on. It will speak to you. Look to your friends and family that are inspiring you. Spend time with them. Don’t spend all your time in the studio. Your voice will stop speaking to you because it too needs a break. Take that break to spend time with those you love the most. Your art will thank you for it.
